Alexa Chung explains why we should support small businesses this Christmas

One of the most sustainable ways to shop is to be more thoughtful and intentional in your purchases; research ethical labels, buy from designer resale sites, and invest in classic pieces that you will keep forever. But this mindful approach to shopping should extend to supporting small businesses as well.

Designer and model Alexa Chung shared some of her favorite ‘party’ independent stores and restaurants in support of the American Express Shop Small campaign, which aims to encourage the nation to ‘buy small’ throughout the holiday season. and beyond.

“I’m a magpie and always really enjoy the tactile experience of shopping in person,” she tells us. “Visiting independent shops and restaurants attracts me because I love everything original where you can feel the personality and passion of the owner. Buying small – especially for gifts – seems more special and unique to me and I am happy to support business owners in this way. “
