BROOKINGS, SD, September 29, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Improving on what started in 2019, TD Garden improves its video experience to a larger size with the first and only 2.5mm pixel spacing in a central application of Daktronics (NASDAQ-DAKT) of Brookings, South Dakota. The installation offers a resolution above 4K, currently the highest resolution in professional basketball and hockey, and took place in Boston, Massachusetts, ahead of the fall sports seasons of 2021. In total, the centerhung provides 48.6 million pixels and it would take 24 60-inch televisions to cover the four main video screens.
“We’re excited to kick off the season and deliver the clearest and most compelling in-game presentation on the all-new ‘Hub Vision’ dashboard,” said Amy Latimer, President of TD Garden. “TD Garden is in a constant state of innovation to improve our customer experience, and Delaware North continues to demonstrate its commitment to the customer experience with these investments. The dashboard is the centerpiece of the arena, and this upgrade will bring an unparalleled and technologically advanced gaming experience to all of our guests.
The improved center suspension uses 2.5-millimeter technology installed in 2019 and expands the digital footprint of the four screens to measure 18 feet high by 32.5 feet wide. Four new underbelly video screens have also been added to the center-suspended setup to meet the needs of fans sitting closer to the action. Each display under the belly is 6.5 feet high by 23 feet wide and has a pixel spacing of 2.9 millimeters.
On top of the 4K video cards, two new ring screens have been installed on their own lifting system to allow them to be raised and lowered for the needs of the many events held on site. These displays are each 3.5 feet tall and 179 feet in circumference and feature 3.9 millimeters pixel spacing.
“We started this transition in 2019, so seeing this new center-suspension system finally completed, as originally planned, is just very special,” said Daktronics sales representative Charley Bocklet. “It is an honor for Daktronics to continue our relationship with TD Garden, which will now showcase some of the highest resolution displays in sports today. It has always been pleasant to work with their staff and never more so than last year. Patience and persistence will pay off for Boston fans in the end. “
Supporting the load, two lifting systems are installed to hold the center hanging display setup in place. The upper rings are on a lifting system and the main video and lower screens are on a separate lifting system. In total, the system weighs almost 82,000 pounds and can be raised and lowered separately depending on the needs of the TD Garden and the events it hosts.
Major video displays are capable of variable content zoning allowing each to display a large image or multiple different areas. These areas can display any combination of live video, instant replays, up-to-the-minute stats, graphics, animations and sponsorship messages in coordination with their live production on match day.
