Mumbai Police have filed a complaint against director general and producer of T-series films Bhushan Kumar after a 30-year-old woman accused him of raping her on the pretext of giving her a job, said on Friday. officials.
Kumar, son of the late music lord Gulshan Kumar, however, denied the allegations and accused the woman of extortion.
The crime was recorded Thursday at the DN Nagar police station in Andheri (West) on the basis of the complaint filed by the 30-year-old woman, who is an aspiring actor, officials said.
According to the complaint, the woman has known Kumar, 43, since 2017 and accused him of repeatedly raping her between 2017 and 2020. HT saw a copy of the complaint.
In her complaint, the woman alleged that she met Kumar at a Mumbai hotel in September 2017, when he gave her contact details. She further alleged that Kumar called her to her bungalow on October 14, 2017, where he raped her. Kumar allegedly recorded the act and threatened to release the video to the public if it came to the police, the woman said.
She did not file a complaint earlier because she was scared, the woman said.
“We have registered a case under Articles 376 (rape), 420 (deception) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code,” said Milind Kurde, senior police inspector of the DN Nagar police station.
Kumar’s team, however, released a statement calling the allegations “completely false,” saying the woman “has worked for the T-Series banner in films and music videos before.”
“The complaint filed against Mr. Bhushan Kumar is completely false and malicious and the content thereof is denied,” the statement said. “It has been falsely alleged that the lady in question was sexually exploited between 2017 and 2020 under the pretext of giving her work.”
According to the statement, the woman approached Kumar in March 2021, seeking help to produce a web series. “Subsequently, in June 2021 after the lockdown in Maharashtra was lifted, she began to approach the T-Series banner in collusion with her accomplice demanding a huge sum of money as the amount of extortion,” the statement read.
âTherefore, a complaint was filed by the T-Series banner against the extortion attempt at the Amboli police station on July 1, 2021. We also have audio recording evidence for the extortion attempt and the same will be provided to the investigating agency. The present complaint lodged by her is only a counter-attack to the complaint lodged against her and her accomplice for extortion, âthe statement added.
Previously, an unidentified woman accused Kumar of seeking sexual favors in exchange for a three-movie deal. The woman claimed on Twitter during the #MeeToo movement that the film producer invited her to her bungalow and threatened to destroy her career when she resisted his sexual advances. Kumar refuted the allegations. However, she did not file a complaint at that time.
