Shie participates in a pilot test of sustainable mobility with renewable hydrogen in the port of La Coruña

SHiE participates in a pilot test of sustainable mobility with renewable hydrogen in the port of La Coruña.

SHiE, the entity formed by Zoilo Ríos and Arpa to offer renewable hydrogen services, has installed a hydroelectric line in the outer port of La Coruña with Repsol, participating in the success of a pilot test of sustainable mobility organized by the port authority of the Galician city with an urban bus powered by this green energy.

It is one of the first national initiatives of its kind and is part of the “A Coruña Green Port” strategy, which aims to act as a catalyst for decarbonization and energy innovation in the industrial sector through the use and promotion of renewable energies and the creation of an energy and marine industrial centre.

The equipment developed by SHiE is composed of hydrogen storage tanks, hydrogen gas compressors, a pre-cooling system and a hydrogen dispenser, which has a hydrogen delivery rate ranging from up to 3.6 kg per minute with a standard pressure of 350 bar.

In addition to standing out for its speed of supply and its high flow rates, it is characterized by its silence, its transportability and its modularity. Renewable hydrogen is that which is generated from non-fossil raw materials and without CO2 emissions, i.e. when the source used for its production is renewable (solar, wind or biomass energy).

The objective of the test was to verify the feasibility of implementing this sustainable fuel in urban transport over several days. The bus has been operating these days in real operational conditions of Line 1 between Castrillón and Abente y Lago Hospital with its usual influx of people, respecting timetables and routes like any other bus in the fleet of the A Coruña tram company.

The vehicle provided by the Caetano groupIt has an electric motor, powered by renewable hydrogen and without CO2 emissions.

Its performance in the test is noteworthy, since during a day of operation on line 1 less than 16 kg of hydrogen were consumed, i.e. barely 42% of its total capacity, which translates into an average consumption of only 1 kg of H2 for each hour of operation.

SHiE has participated in this initiative hand in hand with Repsol, since Zoilo Ríos has been the company’s operator for more than 30 years. For Zoilo Ríos, Managing Partner of SHiE, “this important project is an additional step to make visible the technical capabilities of our teams in different industrial environments”. .

According to him, this pilot test also demonstrated the ease of installation and start-up of its portable hydroelectric line, ideal characteristics for demonstration projects or hydrogen supply projects in the early stages of the process of deploying infrastructures for this technology. until consumer demand and vehicle fleets increase.
