UNESCO to organize Remote Radio Week


Organized by UNESCO in partnership with WHO, Remote Radio Week is an online training program aimed at strengthening the capacity of local radio stations to produce precise and professional radio content in the event of containment or emergency measures, especially financial difficulties.

The program, which runs from November 1-5, will also be available on request. It will cover the different thematic areas, with particular reference to the pandemic crisis.

The program targets radio operators, professionals and managers around the world with particular attention to the needs of local radio stations.

Remote Radio Week will feature separate programs in English, French, Spanish and Arabic throughout the day, with experts, examples, debates and technical advice for the audience.

GOALS

UNESCO’s Remote Radio Week is an online event on the theme of “Remote Radio”,

with the aim of supporting the mission and operations of radio stations located on five different continents.

This is an online program that provides information on how to:

  • Train station staff to work remotely (e.g. studio, broadcast, IP, cloud, social media and DIY equipment)
  • Promote credible and trustworthy radio journalism and public service efforts (reliable information, disinformation, media and information literacy, social ties, etc.)
  • Manage a radio station in times of crisis (e.g. human, economic aspects, social / strategic role)

FIVE THEMES IN FIVE DAYS

Day 1: The radio connection

Local media / company, Info / fake news, entertainment and education

  • Discussion How important is radio during a pandemic or any type of crisis? What are the advantages it brings?
  • Expert advice Good Governance / Human Resources Management
  • Flash testimony Accessibility for people with disabilities
  • Master class How to develop local revenue for radio, independent of donor funding, for sustainability (subscriptions, affiliation, branded content / sponsored podcast, audio branding)
  • Resource Disinformation (How radio can fight fake news)

Day 2: Home Studio

Audio interface, microphones, headphones, accessories, recording / editing / mixing / acoustic / isolation station, podcasts, all-in-one solutions, DIY

  • Discussion How to equip your home studio for a professional FM radio or podcasts?
  • Expert advice Tips for producing a high-quality show from a home studio
  • Tips or Flash Testimonial Visual radio
  • Master class Interactive radio
  • Resource Domestic violence (how radio can raise awareness about gender-based violence)

Day 3: Remote contribution

Live broadcast, emergency, interview-multiplex, remote debates, AoIP codecs, telephony, quality-latency-resilience, security

Day 4: Cloud Radio
